Work Reference

The Beverly Hilton Hotel is a 5-star hotel located in Beverly Hills, the largest affluent area in California, USA. A documentary film of the history of the hotel's design and opening has been restored and digitized.

Starting the Project

While working at a local broadcasting station, where digitizing and restoring analog films and tapes was a significant part of the job, a hotel official who remembered my work environment contacted me personally.
‘I found a box full of film negatives while cleaning the hotel basement’
As someone who loves working with old videos, especially film, I rushed to see what films had been discovered. The films waiting for me were documentary movies about the hotel's design and opening, titled "Hotel is Born." Despite being about the famous Hilton Hotel brand, no one had restored or digitized these films, so no hotel official knew of their existence.
The 16mm film negatives (developed plastic films) have a storage lifespan of about 50 years, but since they had been left in a basement without proper humidity and temperature control, I quickly brought the films to the workstation.

Accidentally Discovered Film Preserving History

I carefully opened the film canisters. Since they were 16mm film canisters about 12 inches in diameter, they likely contained around 30-40 minutes of footage.

KSC (Korean Startup Competition) is an organization that hosts startup competitions with the aim of enhancing the competitiveness of Korean college students residing in the U.S. In preparation for the first official competition, we created online banner advertisements and a promotional brand video.

Beauty of Branding.

KSC (Korean Startup Competition) is an organizing body established to discover and nurture Korean-American aspiring entrepreneurs brimming with innovative business ideas through startup competitions and webinars featuring guest speakers from the industry.
Although there were already specific execution plans and a brand identity (BI) in place, the lack of unified branding elements meant we had to generate ideas and create content from scratch without any existing reference materials.
Given the tight schedule of about 3-4 days from idea proposal to final delivery, we decided to quickly shoot and produce an impactful infomercial and distribute it via a Google Ad campaign along with graphic banners.

UCLA KUBS (Korean Undergraduate Business Society)는 미국 1등 공립 대학교인 UCLA 유일의 한국인 비즈니스 학생회입니다. 대외적인 방향을 설정하는 부회장 직을 역임하며, 브랜드 아이덴티티 (BI) 확립과 소셜 미디어 컨텐츠 확충을 기획했습니다.

독보적인 학생회 컨텐츠에 숨을 불어넣다.

학교당 1-2개의 한국인 학생회가 있는 대부분의 해외 학교와는 달리, 한국인 비중이 높은 UCLA에는 다양한 한국인 동아리가 활발히 운영중입니다.
그 중 유일한 비즈니스 동아리인 KUBS는 국내외 대기업 및 스타트업과의 독자적인 파트너십과 크루원이 직접 설계하는 스터디 프로젝트를 기반으로 운영된다는 점에서 차별점을 둡니다.
워낙 독특한 방식으로 운영되는 팀이다 보니, 조금만 노력하면 우리의 비전과 가치를 공유하는 사람과 기관에 더 많이 도달할 수 있을 것 같다는 확신이 들었습니다.

Case 1. 기억 속에서 서서히 사라지던 카드뉴스를 부활하다

Threads, X와 같은 새로운 소셜 미디어 플랫폼과 점점 단문 위주로 개편되는 우리의 상호작용 방식 (social interaction)은 카드뉴스를 서서히 대세 마케팅 트렌드에서 밀어냈습니다.
하지만, 다양한 활동 사료와 ‘무엇을 어떻게 했는지’, 또 ‘왜 이렇게 복잡하게 보이는 방식으로 동아리를 운영하는지’ 가장 확실하게 보여줄 수 있는 창구로는 카드뉴스가 가장 적합해 보였어요.
